This happened a few months ago at our local DMV office, and man, I’ve been wanting to share this story because it was just wild. I was there bright and early, trying to renew my license, which is never a fun experience, but I figured if I got there before the doors even opened, I’d be in and out.
I was about tenth in line when this woman, let’s call her EM (Entitled Mom), shows up about five minutes before they open. She had a kid, EK, who looked about six or seven and was just glued to a tablet. EM immediately starts huffing and puffing, looking at the line like it personally offended her. She then, without a single word, tries to squeeze in front of the person directly in front of me, muttering something about having an “appointment.”
The guy she tried to cut, a really chill looking older dude, just politely said, “Excuse me, ma’am, the line starts back there. We all have appointments, or we wouldn’t be here this early.” EM absolutely lost it. “I have an emergency! My child needs X, Y, Z!” She didn’t specify what the emergency was, just kept yelling it. The doors opened right then, thankfully, and we all started shuffling in. EM pushed her way past a few people, including me, to get to the information desk first.
The poor clerk at the desk, a young guy, was trying to explain the queuing system. You take a ticket, wait for your number. EM wasn’t having any of it. “I don’t need a ticket! I need to see someone NOW! My time is precious, unlike all these… these people!” She gestured vaguely at the waiting room filling up. She was demanding to speak to the manager, saying she shouldn’t have to wait with “the commoners.” She just kept getting louder and louder, oblivious to the fact that everyone else was just quietly taking their tickets and sitting down.
Eventually, the manager, a no-nonsense woman, came out. She tried to calm EM down, explaining that everyone has to follow the same process. EM started accusing them of discrimination, of being lazy, and of purposefully inconveniencing her. She was literally screaming at this point, pointing her finger right in the manager’s face. The manager, to her credit, stayed incredibly calm and just repeated the policy.
That’s when EM just snapped. There was a metal display stand nearby, holding a bunch of “how-to” pamphlets and forms. She spun around and, with a furious roar, shoved the stand with both hands. It clattered to the floor, sending pamphlets flying everywhere. Then, she marched over to a large laminated sign on the wall about “Zero Tolerance for Verbal Abuse” and tried to rip it down. She managed to tear a good chunk off the bottom before a security guard, who had been observing from a distance, finally stepped in.
The guard, a big guy, calmly told EM she needed to leave, or he’d have to escort her out. EM, still fuming, started yelling at him, too. But at this point, the manager stepped in again, and she wasn’t so calm this time. She told EM that not only was she not getting service today, but due to her behavior and the property damage, she was now banned from this particular DMV branch indefinitely. She also informed EM that she would be receiving a bill for the damaged sign and stand, and if she didn’t pay it, further action would be taken. EM just stood there, jaw agape, looking absolutely shocked. She genuinely thought she could get away with it.
The guard then firmly but politely escorted a now-silent and deflated EM and her bewildered EK out the door. The whole office broke into a collective sigh of relief, and the manager even got a round of applause from a few of the people waiting. It felt so good to see someone like that finally get what they deserved.
TL;DR: EM causes a huge scene at the DMV, demands special treatment, yells at staff, damages property, gets banned from the branch, and hit with a bill for damages.
